The Olympics

Got distracted in the morning by the Olympics matches again.

Seriously this ain’t really a good time to host a sacred event like this cos I’m gonna have my exams soon?

This year’s gymnastics event totally pwned me.

Nope it wasn’t because all the gymnast girls are hot, though I must admit Team USA and Siberia (not sure) were hot.

What mesmerized me was something different.

Team USA had a really bad start because 3 out of 4 of four of them missed that the uneven bars while they are doing their uneven bars routine and the cause was their team being plagued by injuries.

They were really sad as they were hoping to nail the gold this year. They were the hot favourites and now this had to happen. One of them nearly cried. Everyone was sure then that they wouldn’t make it for preliminaries round 2.

But something incredible happened. Despite all the negative commentary and how insurmountable the odds were (their opponents: Japan, Britain and China purely owned the uneven bars), they didn’t give up. Instead they cheered each other on.

They displayed “The spirit of not giving up.”

They decided to give their all for the last event which is the balance beam.

Nastia Liukin's performance was extraordinary considering she may still be suffering from the after effects of injury.
Chellsie Memmel’s performance on the beam was mesmerizing. It was as if she was a little pixie dancing on the beam, with such grace. Her moves were gentle and subtle, smooth and light, like those of a fairy. That was when Team USA got up and they knew that this was their chance.

Chellsie Memmel's fairy performance
Shawn Johnson boosted their team’s performance by giving a performance full of power, with every move powerful but with grace. The elegance of a serious woman. She executed the beam performance perfectly and finished it with the legendary double back flip and landed perfectly. 16 year old current world champion totally pwned the crowd.

Wow. I mean seriously WOW!

Totally beautiful and perfect. For this two words to come out simultaneously of my mouth. Damn that's excellent.

And in the end, they made it.
Team USA athletes celebrating

These young athletes just never fail to amaze me. They make what seems humanly impossible possible. And most importantly, their focus and determination on the goal is absolutely admirable.

And not to mention all of Team USA’s and the other competitors are all around our age. Shawn Johnson, the current world champion is 16 years old. Beat that! Besides having hectic training schedules, they still do well in their studies and take time out for community work, family, pets and yes, they do have a Life.
Evidence: Team USA's gymnasts' profile: Geez man and all the time we say we don't have time for things we wanna do

This makes me think about what I can really do. Not that I’m gonna be a gymnast but I can really do much more if I push myself out of my comfort zone. If they can do it, so can I.

Anyway all hopes will be on Tao Li tomorrow. I hope she nails the first gold medal for Team Singapore. Rock on!

My eyes were totally glued to the screen for the legendary showdown between USA and China for basketball. Team USA ,with all those tomahawk and 360 dunks, had an advantage over China. Though being that, I must say Yao Ming put up a really good performance. USA is still the Dream Team I guess. What do you expect when you put King James, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe(my favourite player!) and Dwyane Wade in a single team huh? Yao Ming made a big entrance with a 1st 3 pointer shot but hey! We got Kobe man. I think he’s the only one who can shoot a 3 pointer while closing his eyes. Hey not kidding! Dude, It’s Kobe Bryant. I think he really nailed a basket while closing his eyes before >.<
Dwyane Wade nailing a high flying dunk
Michael Phelps, 7 more gold medals to go. I’ll be watching you.
Geez so much exciting competitions to watch. Unfortunately I don’t have the time and nor do I want to take Mark Richmond’s and Jade Seah’s (ooh lala) jobs of being the Olympics highlights hosts.
I’m such a sports fanatic ;) This is so gonna cause me my grades if I continue like this -.-
Gonna sleep now and catch Tao Li’s competition tomorrow. After which I will meet Jovian for revision tomorrow.
